Respondus LockDown Browser is only used for Canvas tests. It is not be used in other areas of Canvas. LockDown Browser is installed on the computers in both Carrier Library and Rose Library. Double click the LockDown Browser Icon on your desktop. Log into Canvas from the LockDown Browser Screen. Find the quiz that is due and click on it. Click on Take the Quiz. Lockdown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment in Canvas. Monitor is an additional feature that may be used in conjunction with Lockdown Browser. LockDown Browser integrates seamlessly with Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle, Sakai and Schoology. Over 1,500 institutions use LockDown Browser with their LMS, making it one of the leading third-party tools for learning systems. To link to a MyLab course to your institution’s Respondus Monitor license, the instructor needs to log into the institution’s LMS (Canvas, Blackboard, etc) and navigate to the LockDown Browser Dashboard. Select 'About LockDown Browser' and then choose the 'Other Systems' tab. Expand the section for 'Pearson MyLab' and copy the code shown.

Your course may require one or more of your assessments to be proctored. If your instructor requires a proctored test environment there are several options which are listed below. Be sure to check the course syllabus so that you know which test proctoring option your instructor requires.

Pensacola State College Test Centers

Pensacola State College has test centers on five campuses; Pensacola, Milton, Warrington, Century, and South Santa Rosa. The hours differ at each, so be sure to call and find out what the open hours are. It is the student’s responsibility to make an appointment well ahead of time as the slots fill up quickly, especially around heavier semester exam times like mid-term and final.

Proctorio

Proctorio is a remote proctoring solution designed to protect the integrity of course assessments. Proctorio runs as an extension in the Google Chrome browser and only works within the Canvas environment. You will need a webcam and microphone to use Proctorio, and you will need to use a computer (not a mobile device) to take your exam. If your exam requires Proctorio, directions to download and install the extension will be found in your course.

Proctorio upholds FERPA, COPPA, and GDPR compliance, and only runs while you are taking your exam. Your connection is encrypted end-to-end. After your exam ends, you may uninstall the extension. You will be reminded to reinstall the extension again before starting your next exam. After your exam session ends only your instructor will have access to your exam data.

Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment making it so you cannot access anything else from your computer while taking an exam. You will need to download and install the browser on your computer. To take an exam, simply click the LockDown browser icon on your desktop, and log into Canvas. When an assessment is started, you are locked into the exam until it is submitted for grading. Respondus LockDown Browser is available for both Windows and Mac. Note: Respondus LockDown Browser will not work on a ChromeBook.

ProctorU

ProctorU is a service that allows students who are required to have a live proctor in order to complete a test or exam at any location while still ensuring the academic integrity of the exam for the college. Using almost any webcam and computer, you can take exams at home, at work, or anywhere you have Internet access. This service is provided as an option to students who find it difficult to make other proctoring arrangements. There is a fee associated with this proctoring arrangement. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with ProctorU and to pay the fee. Please see the information linked below.

Note: Students using ProctorU may now schedule their exam within the hour (depending on availability) for an additional $8.75 to the regular proctoring fee. This option is made available to students when they login to their ProctorU account to schedule an exam.
